This privacy notice tells you about the information we collect from you when you sign up to receive our newsletter via our website or through author events. In collecting this information, we are acting as a data controller, and, by law, we are required to provide you with information about us, why and how we use your data, and your rights over this data.

Contact forms
When you subscribe to our marketing communications, we ask you for your name and your email address. We will use your information to send you marketing communications with book news, author-related events, and book promotions. We handle your data with care and respect. We will not share your information with third parties. If you unsubscribe from future communications, your information will be stored in our database, but we will make no further contact with you. We will store and use your information until you unsubscribe. In order to ensure the accuracy of our records, we may keep your information in our database unless you ask us to erase it. We use MailChimp to store your information in our database.
You can ask us what information we hold about you, and you can ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate. You can also ask for it to be erased, and you can ask for us to give you a copy of the information. You can also ask us to stop using your information. The simplest way to do this is to withdraw your consent by clicking the unsubscribe link at the end of any newsletter or by emailing or writing to us.
Blog Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
